Un dispositivo nuevo proporciona una solución segura y efectiva para los pacientes con regurgitación mitral (RM) que no son candidatos para cirugía a corazón abierto o reparación transcatéter de la válvula mitral.

El sistema de implante de válvula mitral transcatéter, Tendyne de Abbott (Abbott Park, IL, EUA), se basa en una válvula bioprotésica de tres hojas autoexpandible que puede reemplazar la válvula mitral nativa sin necesidad de cirugía a corazón abierto. El dispositivo se estabiliza mediante un mecanismo de almohadilla y correa que lo mantiene en su lugar dentro de la válvula nativa. La administración se realiza a través de una pequeña toracotomía anterior izquierda bajo guía continua de ecocardiografía transesofágica 3D (TEE) en tiempo real. Es posible reposicionar y recuperar el dispositivo Tendyne además de que se ajusta a una amplia gama de anatomías, lo que permite mejores resultados y facilidad de uso durante el procedimiento.

El Tendyne TVMI se une al MitraClip de Abbott, un clip de cromo-cobalto de 4 mm de ancho (recubierto de poliéster para promover el crecimiento del tejido) que se sujeta a los dos bordes de la válvula mitral, manteniéndolos juntos. La RM es una afección en la que las valvas de la válvula mitral del corazón no se cierran herméticamente, lo que permite que la sangre fluya hacia atrás, desde el ventrículo izquierdo del corazón hacia la aurícula izquierda. Hay dos tipos de RM: degenerativa y funcional. La RM degenerativa es causada por daño a las valvas de la válvula mitral; la RM funcional es causada por el agrandamiento del corazón. La RM es el tipo más común de insuficiencia valvular en los Estados Unidos.
